This essay proposes a critical reflection on the tourism motivations of Generation Z (Gen Z), from the classical push and pull theory to the evolution of new motivational triggers associated with the contemporary digital environment. Drawing from perspectives in sociology, psychology, and consumer behavior, the essay examines contemporary findings regarding the influence of social media, external validation, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), vicarious pleasure, and digital envy. The objective is to question whether Gen Z travel motivations respond to an authentic search for experience or to a symbolic need for visibility and social recognition. As a result of the theoretical analysis, it is argued that Gen Z tourism motivations are linked to a visual and hyperconnected lifestyle, where trending destinations and photographable experiences function as travel catalysts; furthermore, it is concluded that, for this segment, traveling represents both an experience of discovery and a form of projecting success, belonging, and recognition within the digital community.
