This study examines child discipline methods in 10 Latin American countries, their prevalence, sociodemographic differences, and attitudes toward violence as a legitimate parenting method. Data from MICS 6 (2018-2022) across 10 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were used. A total of 68,515 caregivers were surveyed regarding disciplinary practices. Non-parametric tests were applied to analyze sociodemographic differences and attitudes toward physical punishment. Psychological violence was the most common disciplinary method across all 10 countries, with Suriname showing the highest prevalence (80%). Only Costa Rica and Cuba prioritized non-violent methods. Severe and moderate physical violence was prevalent among children aged 3-9, particularly among those with mothers who had low educational levels and were from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, boys were more likely to experience violence. Maternal education and economic status significantly influenced the methods employed.
