Abstract

Risk perception, in disaster risk reduction, refers to the recognition and interpretation of reality, a process through which an individual's brain decodes and signifies the stimuli received through the senses, to configure a conscious impression of their around. The objective of this research was to evaluate the perception of risk due to hydrogeomorphological phenomena in areas near Pico del Tancítaro, Michoacán. This was carried out through the design and application of a survey to residents in hazardous areas, where we additionally obtained information on the main effects in each area due to the occurrence of storms and landslides. The results of risk perception indicate that there are people in the Peribán disaster area (2018) who do not perceive risk; Similarly, in the town of Zirimondiro there are people settled in the river ravines who do not perceive risk, these areas being the most prone to the occurrence of a new disaster.
