Métodos de disciplina de madres/cuidadores durante la crianza en América Latina y el Caribe

Resumen

Este estudio analiza los métodos de disciplina infantil en 10 países latinoamericanos, su prevalencia, diferencias de acuerdo con características sociodemográficas y la actitud hacia la violencia como método legítimo de crianza. El estudio utilizó datos de la EIMC 6 (2018-2022) en 10 países de América Latina y el Caribe. Se encuestó a 68,515 cuidadores sobre prácticas disciplinarias. Se aplicaron pruebas no paramétricas para analizar diferencias sociodemográficas y actitudes hacia el castigo físico. En los 10 países analizados, la violencia psicológica fue el método de disciplina más frecuente, destacando Surinam (80%). Solo Costa Rica y Cuba priorizaron métodos no violentos. La violencia física severa y moderada fue común en menores de 3-9 años, con mayor prevalencia en madres con baja escolaridad y en sectores socioeconómicos bajos. Además, los niños varones fueron más propensos a sufrir violencia. La educación materna y el nivel económico influyeron significativamente en los métodos utilizados.
